USF Men’s Golf Season Closes at NCAA Tournament

The USF men’s golf team posted the sixth-best performance WHSIHFCCUBKYYOO_20140517201802of the day in the final round of the San Antonio Regional recently, carding a 296 (+8) to finish 10th of 13 teams.  The 30th-ranked Bulls played consistently throughout the tournament, shooting 296 on the first day as well, and posting a score of 295 in the second round, finishing 18 strokes away from a berth in the NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Chase Koepka (West Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded a near-perfect round, carding just one bogey to shoot a 71 (-1) on the par-72 Briggs Ranch Golf Course, leading the Bulls.

USF carded 17 birdies as a team, getting four from junior Joseph Winslow (Overland Park, Kan.) en route to shooting a 76 (+4) on the day.

Junior Trey Valentine (Melbourne, Fla.) continued his strong tournament, posting birdies on 14 and 18 to shoot a 74 (+2), and finish in a tie for 25th, with a three-day total of 220.

Freshman Rigel Fernandes (Bradenton, Fla.) rounded out the Bulls’ scorers, posting a 75 (+3).

For the Bulls, the trip to the NCAA Tournament was their second consecutive, and second in three years under head coach Chris Malloy. USF loses just two seniors for the 2014-15 season.
