Where Are They Now? – Adam Feinberg

Whatever happened to Adam Feinberg? Before Delta Zeta even named their classes, Adam Feinberg was there! It was 1987 when this young college student pledged the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and Brother Feinberg fondly recalls, “it was simple [back then], and I still have my ‘Squid #86’ pledge jersey! The great idea of class names started once we knew it was forever and not just 50 guys and li’l sisters having fun!” He stuck with it, though, and graduated in 1990 with a degree in International Studies and Economics (“Why?” he asks, “I have no idea!”).

After college, Brother Feinberg married his beautiful wife, Dganitt, who, coincidentally enough, he went to high school with but never knew her at that time! They have four great kids, ages 7, 10, 12, and 14, and to support this amazing family, he works as the Guardian Protection Services Regional Sales Manager for not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR states!

He currently resides in Pennsylvania, just south of Philadelphia. He remains in contact with several of his Brothers through Facebook, and he checks in with them from time to time. “Chip Woodward was my roommate in Lambda II Dorm when he joined Chi Phi,” Brother Feinberg recalls. “The next semester, I joined, and we have been great friends ever since. My door is always open to a DZ!” He definitely misses Chip, as well as George King. “And even Tanner,” he adds, “formally known as Gary Chaiken, and several others too.” But with all of the modern technology of cell phones, e-mails, and Facebook, Brother Feinberg tries to stay in touch with them all.

When thinking about how his years with Chi Phi has impacted his life, Brother Feinberg admits that is a huge question. “I tried to answer that in a Chakett article that came out a few months ago. The three “L’s” come to mind all the time – Listen, Learn, and Lead. When thinking back to having to do so much with so little time, and yet have such a great time doing it keeps me sane with things get tough in my day to day life. At least now, when I work my butt off, there is a paycheck attached to it,” he adds with a grin.

Archiving the DZAA

The Delta Zeta Alumni Association is currently looking for someone to volunteer to assume the role of Archivist for the DZAA. The Archivist would catalogue the photos we have into a digital archive that will  go onto the website for dues paying members to view. This would include scanning the print photos we have and possibly taking photographs of various memorabilia and even some of the pictures that we are unable to scan (due to the fact that they are in giant books or pages of minute books). The cataloguing part will be a joint effortm as Alumni look at photos and identify the people in the picture, where they were taken, and an approximate year of when they were taken.

While the archiving will require a lot of work, rest assured, there will be plenty of people to help. We anticipate the project to take at least two to three years to complete. The position will take some time commitment from the Alumnus who volunteers, but the time frame for completing is completely within your schedule. We would only ask that you provide us with some measurable monthly progress, against which we will be able to project a timeline for completion.

Outside of the main project of archiving photos, the Archivist will also be responsible for caring for the items themselves. This does not mean that the items need to be housed at the Archivist’s residence; but it does mean they need to be stored and maintained in a safe place for which the Archivist has access (such as a storage unit).

It is our hope that as the DZAA is continuing to flourish in recent months, it will encourage the Alumni to step up and assist – and that one Alumnus will come forward and volunteer for this person to help organize and keep the DZAA history alive for all of us!

College of Excellence in Atlanta!

The 2014 College of Excellence took place this past weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. This year, Chi Phi COE 3partnered with the North-American Interfraternity Conference to bring members a unique experience. The College of Excellence (or “COE” as it is commonly referred to) was built off the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute, which offers a five-day program to bring together Chi Phi men from across the country to explore, define, and enhance their leadership skills, personal awareness, commitment to their Chapter, and grow to expect values-based action from themselves and those they lead. During COE, Brothers are given the resources to improve their leadership abilities and positively affect their Chapter.

During COE, Brothers experienced hands-on interaction, experiential activities, discussion time, and personal reflection time. Each participant had the opportunity to develop his own unique personal plan of action and was challenged to make a commitment to leading positive changes within their Chapter.

COE was open to any undergraduate member who currently holds an executive committee position and plans on holding the position for an additional term as well as any current members who hold an active chair position or have aspirations to hold a leadership position within their Chapter.

It was an amazing weekend, and all of the Brothers who participated are to be congratulated on completing the course and graduating as better men and leaders!
