President’s Message

ChiPhi_Crest_2009

Brothers,

As many of you have seen and comment about on Facebook, the 30th ish reception and Founder’s Weekend was a smash. I owe a debt of gratitude to the DZAA Board members and other volunteers for their steadfastness and diligence in planning and executing the weekend’s events. Yahoo for all Delta Zeta’s!

The next large event on the horizon is the 2nd Annual USF/Chi Phi Scholarship Scramble. This year it will be held on October 26th at the Babe Zaharias Golf Course in Tampa. The registration costs will be similar to last year, but the prize structure and on-site competitions have changed to better align with participant feedback.  Mark your calendar, call your Brothers and book your travel. It will be a great event and hopefully just as successful, if not even more so, than last year. More information will be available soon, but in the mean time, we are looking for volunteers. If you are interested in giving a small amount of your time to this event, please email me at dzaa@gmail.com.

That’s all for now, have a fun and adventurous summer!

Fraternally,

David Ebner, DZ ’08
DZAA-President

Chi Phi in the Limelight!

Turn on your television, head out for a game – no matter where you go or what you watch, you may find yourself watching a Brother without even realizing it!

For the past month, Brother Ben Portman, of the Phi Lambda Theta Chapter, has been competing on the Food Network’s America’s Best Cook.  Brother Portman has continued to impress the judges with his culinary skills, and it’s a sure bet that all of his fellow Chi Phis are watching with the hopes of seeing him walk away the winner!

While one Chi Phi shows off his cooking talent, another Chi Phi recently showed off his singing skills.  Brother Christian Davey, of the Rho Iota Kappa Chapter, proudly sang the National Anthem on May 4th at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox game.   Brother Davey was chosen as a part of the Rhode Island Day ceremonies at Fenway.

Just goes to show – you never know where you’ll see a Chi Phi next!

Chapter News – As the Semester Ends…

And so another semester comes to an end at the University of South Florida, and the Delta Zeta Chapter readies itself for not only a Summer Break, but also it gears up for the coming Fall Semester.  Current Alpha, Phillip Gilroy, had a few words to share looking back:

“This past semester has been a productive semester for Delta Zeta. Despite not Alexhaving the best beginning this year, we finished strong. Unfortunately, only 2 new members were initiated. However, the Fall Semester looks very promising, with Rush Events already planned out. IFC has recently banned informal recruitment; so all new members must go through theMike formal bidding process. We are looking at having an Alumni Mixer with potential new members as a Rush Event. We participated in four (4) philanthropies, and won 1 of them, that being Chi LeonOmega’s ‘Sand Slam,’ which is a volleyball tournament. We also began to complete the Standards Of Fraternal Excellence for this year, and we are looking at hopefully getting Most Improved Chapter, as well as Chapter with Recognition in December. The Brothers who have either just graduated, or are graduating this summer are Alexander Sadowski, Michael Rizer, and Leon Ishikawa. If anybody has any questions feel free to contact me.

Fraternally,
Philip Gilroy”

Snaps to the Chapter for all of their hard work, for the continuing drive to strive for success, and for producing gentlemen who portray the true qualities of a Chi Phi!  And congratulations to the recent graduates, as they enter into the world and join the rest of the Alumni as a part of the DZAA!

Enjoy the Summer, gentlemen, we look forward to seeing what you’re going to do in the Fall!
