Some men survive falls from ladders. Other men survive a crash through a window. But only a DZAA can survive being hit by a car! Our Association President, Brother David Ebner, recently lived to tell his own story of survival…
“I was walking to the Oxford Exchange on Kennedy, by the University of Tampa. I crossed the intersection at Kennedy and Hyde Park, and a young woman ran into me in the crosswalk. I just remember walking, and then waking up on the sidewalk. I assume she hit me with the front right side of her car, and I fell back over the hood and onto the street. I was definitely unconscious for a bit, but when I woke up, I was numb all ove rand couldn’t move. I eventually made it to the curb.
“The young woman was frantic, and I tried to calm her down by telling her some jokes. The fire department, paramedics, and police showed up, and it was a circus for about five minutes. I inevitably went to the hospital, although not immediately (a mistake, I realize, but I didn’t feel that bad then). Later, my head was starting to hurt, and I noticed some short term memory problems. I went to the University Hospital (they gave me a new name, but I’m not sure what it was), and the doctors did a CT scan with some other tests. They ultimately said I had no more damage that what was already there before the accident (yes, the doctor was a joker). I ended up with nothing more than a nasty bump on my head and an extremely sore right side of my body.
“Have no fear, though – I am still able to fulfill my duties as the DZAA President!”
Leave it to a Chi Phi to take a licking and keep on ticking!
(DISCLAIMER – DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME – WE AT THE DZAA ARE JUST THANKFUL THAT BROTHER EBNER IS DOING WELL AND DID NOT HAVE ANY LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT!)
