Chapter News – Meet the New Members for Spring 2014!

Spring is a time for growth, and following Rush Week back in January, the Chapter is happy to have three new members joining the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity!  Rahul Srinivas, Matthew Deem, and Sean McHugh are three highly esteemed gentlemen who are currently completing their new member education before becoming full-fledged Brothers of the Fraternity.Chi Phi 1 - Rahul

Rahul Srinivas is a Freshman at USF, having graduated in India.  He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and aspires to make a name for himself in the automobile industry.  Rahul hopes that Chi Phi will help him improve his leadership qualities and that he will learn things from the Fraternity to help make him a better man.

Matthew Deem comes from a family of Greeks, so it was only natural that Chi Phi 1 - Matthewthey encouraged him to seek out a Fraternity when he came to USF.  He maintains a close relationship with his parents and two siblings, and having a strong love for music, often goes to concerts with his brother.  Matthew is very excited about becoming a part of this Brotherhood and looks forward to where it will lead him.

Sean McHugh hails from Houston, Texas, having moved Chi Phi 1 - Seanto Florida just four years ago.  He transferred to USF as a junior last year, and this is his second semester.  Sean’s major is in Medical Technology, and when he’s not studying, he enjoys golfing, fishing, and basically anything outdoors.  He hopes that in Chi Phi he will gain experience in executive positions while forging friendships with his new Brothers.

It’s always exciting to see the Chapter grow, not just in quantity, but with quality – and it’s clear that these three new members definitely fulfill the quality that Chi Phi demands of its men.

Welcome to Chi Phi, gentlemen!

Now you’ll get the facts!  RENT-A-CHI is a fundraiser unlike any other.  On Sunday, April 13th, following the annual Scarlet vs Blue Classic softball game, the Delta Zeta Alumni Association will be holding an auction.  But this is not your normal auction.  Instead of works of art, family heirlooms, or other prized possessions, the DZAA will be auctioning off Delta Zeta Brothers!  Yes, you read that right.  RENT-A-CHI is an opportunity for you to bid on, and win, a Delta Zeta Brother for an afternoon.

Members of the Association exec board, including Brothers David Ebner, Kyllan Purdon, Todd Latoski, and Clinton Millsap, along with some of the Active Brothers, will be auctioning themselves up to help increase the amount currently in the DZ Housing Fund.  auction-hammerWith your winning bid, you could have Brother Purdon washing your dog and car … or Brother Millsap setting up all those programs you’ve been wanting to add to your computer … or Brother Latoski organizing and cleaning up your garage … or Brother Ebner taking that CrossFit class with you.  Whatever you need done (within the physical and mental means of the Chi for whom you have the winning bid), the Brothers of Delta Zeta are ready and willing to take on!

The auction will be open to any and all in attendance – Alumni, Active Brothers, spouses, significant others, family, friends – anyone who wants to bid is more to welcome!  So, while we are enjoying the annual picnic after the softball game this year, we’ll also be raising money to finally purchase a Chi Phi House.

More details, including a full list of Brothers to be auctioned, as well as full rules and guidelines, will be coming soon!  Mark your calendars for April 13th and start saving that spare change now – this is one auction you won’t want to miss out on!

Chapter News – A New and Unique Traditions Dinner

On Friday evening, January 17th, the Brothers of Delta Zeta capped off their 2014 Spring Rush Week with a Traditions Dinner held at Acropolis in Ybor City.  After a successful week of meeting young men from all walks of college life, the Chapter gave out invitations to those who showed the most promise.   Seven men joined a number of the Brothers at Acropolis restaurant on Friday night, along with Alumni Brothers David Ebner and Todd Latoski, for a very fun and definitely unique dinner event!

With a taste of various Greek dishes, the Delta Zeta Chapter and Alumni got to better know the potential new members – from a freshman who moved here from India to attend school, to a junior who came up from Miami to study criminology, to a young man who is finishing his degree in the medical field with the hopes of becoming a hospital lab technician.  As always with Chi Phi, the standards are high, and these seven diverse young men certain show they are striving for great things.

 Chi Phi Tradition Dinner

One thing that set this Traditions Dinner apart from previous dinners was the highlight of the evening for these guys – the opportunity to strut their stuff and show off their belly-dancing skills!  That’s right!  Acropolis’ own belly-dancer came upstairs and lured the Brothers (and even the Alumni!) into taking a shot at dancing.  Some were good, some were bad, some were downright hysterical – but all were in good fun, making the night a definite night to remember!

Now the Chapter will make the decision of whom to send out bids and who will actually be the next new members of the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity at USF, and soon enough, we will be welcoming new Brothers into the fold!
