Chapter News – DZ Wins Again!

The Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity at USF does it again!  After the magnificent wins during Homecoming Week – – after the successful Spelling Bee philanthropy – – now the Active Brothers have scored another win for the Chapter!  On November 8th, Chi Omega hosted their Chi-O Rodeo at the Greek Village Fields.  The Brothers put on an awesome performance, and in so doing, they took first place boot and first place overall for the night’s competitions!  Delta Zeta is showing themselves to be strong, both on campus and in the community, this year, and the Alumni are extremely proud of what these young men are doing!

And if that wasn’t enough, the Chapter initiated the seven new members into the Fraternity – congratulations goes out to Blaise Levai, Nathan Drass, Blake Halloran, Nick Julian, Raymond Vedros, Jake Heintz, and Ben Katz – welcome to the Delta Zeta Chapter, Brothers!

Alumni, let’s continue to show our support for the Active Chapter as they continue to grow and succeed!

Fundraising News – How do you spell S-U-C-C-E-S-S?

The Active Chapter has done it again!  The Delta Zeta’s Third Annual Spelling Bee Philanthropy, which took place on October 29th (just days after the Alumni Association’s Golf Tournament), was another success for Chi Phi.  There were a number of Greek organizations that came out to show their support and participate.  Zeta Tau Alpha won not just the 1st place award, but they also won 2nd and 3rd places as well, making them the overall winners for the night!  Delta Gamma walked away with the “Best Costume” trophy for the evening.

And the final success of the evening?  The Brothers managed to raise $450 to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America, which is a non-profit organization that enables young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.  Congratulations to the Active Brothers for another successful philanthropic event!

Chapter News – Keeping Up with the Actives

The Delta Zeta Chapter at USF has been very busy since the beginning of the school year.   Not only did they induct 8 new members into the Chapter during Rush Week, but they have since added a 9th new inductee into the Fraternity!

On September 23rd, Jose Suarez (the current Alpha) and seven others went out of their way to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by going to Chili’s Donate Profits Day.  This was the 10th year that Chili’s has sponsored this event, donating 100% of their net profits on this one day to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  St. Jude leads the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.  It’s great to see the Active Brothers participate in such a worthwhile cause, just another way that Delta Zeta gives back to the community!

The Brothers are also working diligently to prepare for their 3rd Annual Spelling Bee philanthropy, set to take place on the USF campus on October 29th.  With two successful years under their belt, the Chapter is sure to raise even more funds this year for the Boys and Girls Club of America!

Finally, this past Saturday, each of the new members received their Big Brothers.  After an activity-filled evening of string theory and yogurt eating contest, each new member was given a candle and walked around a circle of Brothers.  The Brother who extinguished the candle was their Big, and it was an amazing evening!  The new members were ecstatic, to say the least, that they now had their Big Brothers to guide them on their way!

Fellow alumnus, Brother David Ebner, went to the Chapter’s meeting recently, where he spoke about the upcoming Golf outing.  He reported that things seem to be going very well with the Chapter, and the current Alpha and Beta are keeping the Chapter focused, holding the Brothers accountable and reminding everyone what it is to be a Chi Phi!
