DZAA Heroes – Brother Tim White Retires!

Delta Zeta is proud to have seen a number of its Brothers serve our country in the various armed forces, but this month marks a very special occasion – for Brother Tim White is retiring from his service with the United States Air Force.

TIM WHITE

A professor of joint military operations with the Air Force, Brother White has served for 25 years, having been stationed across the country, including Vance AFB in Oklahoma; Dyess AFB in Texas, Grams Forks AFB in North Dakota; Maxwell AFB in Alabama; McConnell AFB in Kansas; Altus AFB in Oklahoma; McGuire AFB in New Jersey; Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island; and Scott AFB in Illinois.

Brother White has been deployed 13 times during his career, mostly to the desert. He has flown combat missions and Special Operations combat missions in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

“I am proudest of the courage of my family during my deployments,” Brother White states, “as my triplet children grew old enough to fully understand both how long I’d be gone and how dangerous deployments could be.”

Brother White also praises his time as a Chi Phi. “Being a Chi Phi Brother helped me to depend on those stationed around me,” he admits. “My relationships in Chi Phi bled into the trust I would place in my fellow Airmen to accomplish the mission. It was this trust that afforded my comrades and me unrivaled success in our service to our nation and this opportunity to proudly and contently retire from the United States Air Force.”

Phil Found His Shirt!

No, we’re not talking about the latest Dr. Seuss book – although it probably would make for a good one (he searched down low, he searched up high … he searched so far, he searched so nigh … he searched until his body hurt, but at long last, Phil found his shirt!). No, we are talking about fellow Alumnus, Brother Phil Hoeksema, who recently found his original Pledge Shirt!

Phil Found His Pledge Shirt

“Hokie” stumbled across the shirt and decided to try it on. And, according to his wife, the shirt fits him better now, some 20 years later, than it did when he first got it back in the Fall of 1990 (wow, really? 1990? Has it really been 24 years?!).

So this begs the question…where’s your pledge shirt? Do you still have it? Or, the better question is – does it still fit? Food for thought…

Brother Suarez Ties the Knot!

Suarez Wedding - Ryan CoverAs Chi Phi, we share a number of exciting days in our Brothers’ lives – from graduations to birthdays to new cars to new homes. But few celebrations are as life-changing as the day a Brother gets married! And recently, the Delta Zeta Alumni were able to share in the joy as Brother Ryan Suarez tied the knot with the love of his life!

On April 5, 2014, Brother Suarez said “I do” to his lovely bride, Ciara, and sharing in this joyous occasion were Brothers David Ebner, Josh Cleveland, Jason Bornstein, Sameep Shah, Kyllan Purdon, Aaron Poidevin, and Quincy Banis. Brother Suarez shares these wonderful thoughts from the day:

“Qunicy brought a female friend who he broke up with the next week. Poidevin got shot by cupid’s arrow Suarez Wedding - Quincy(if you know what I mean). Cleveland got shot down by a girl who he now is seriously talking too. We all got a chance to see Quincy and his then-girlfriend try procreating. Bornstein got robbed of his blanket in the hotel room, which they had set at 50! And he got about 45 minutes of sleep due to the bitter cold his brothers made him suffer through. All in all, everyone had a good time. Chi Phis added that extra life to the party, and no one got arrested! Oh, and yes, my wife Ciara did say YES, and we are happily married for 2+ months now. The wedding was in Sarasota, Florida. While weddings are expensive, all the hard work paid off in the end. I didn’t get cold feet and might have shed a tear (due to the sun in my eyes). Brothers Cleveland and Bornstein helped with last minute wedding details and spent the night with me on my last night as a single man.”

We all wish Brother Suarez the very best in the years to come as he shares the rest of his life in wedded bliss with his lovely wife, Ciara! Congratulations to you both!
