Climbing into the Wrong Bed with an Alumnus!

10342458_10153041097854223_7823933112216727190_nBrother Latoski is back up on the stage, as his latest play opens this weekend at the Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen.

This time around, Brother Latoski is portraying 20150301_1259482Claude Stevens, a married man who gets caught up in his friend Ted’s scheme to pull one over the eyes of Ted’s uncle, who holds the purse-strings to all of Ted’s money. “Right Bed, Wrong Husband” is a comedy of epic proportions, filled with mistaken identities, quick-thinking scams, and tons of laughs. But the real question you have to ask yourself is … just how many people will Brother Latoski end up in bed with?

“Right Bed, Wrong Husband” opens on Friday, March 6, 2015 and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through March 22, 2015. If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not!), plan a Friday or Saturday evening out (or a Sunday afternoon adventure) to come support Brother Latoski in his seventh play at the Shoestring.

More information about the play and how to purchase tickets can be found at the website, http://shoestringtheatre.net/index.html

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s … our DZAA President?!?

Some men survive falls from ladders. Other men survive a crash through a window. But only a DZAA can survive being hit by a car! Our Association President, Brother David Ebner, recently lived to tell his own story of survival…

“I was walking to the Oxford Exchange on Kennedy, by the University of Tampa. I crossed the intersection at Kennedy and Hyde Park, and a young woman ran into me in the crosswalk. I just remember walking, and then waking up on the sidewalk. I assume she hit me with the front right side of her car, and I fell back over the hood and onto the street. I was definitely unconscious for a bit, but when I woke up, I was numb all ove rand couldn’t move. I eventually made it to the curb.

“The young woman was frantic, and I tried to calm her down by telling her some jokes. The fire department, paramedics, and police showed up, and it was a circus for about five minutes. I inevitably went to the hospital, although not immediately (a mistake, I realize, but I didn’t feel that bad then). Later, my head was starting to hurt, and I noticed some short term memory problems. I went to the University Hospital (they gave me a new name, but I’m not sure what it was), and the doctors did a CT scan with some other tests. They ultimately said I had no more damage that what was already there before the accident (yes, the doctor was a joker). I ended up with nothing more than a nasty bump on my head and an extremely sore right side of my body.

“Have no fear, though – I am still able to fulfill my duties as the DZAA President!”

Leave it to a Chi Phi to take a licking and keep on ticking!

(DISCLAIMER – DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME – WE AT THE DZAA ARE JUST THANKFUL THAT BROTHER EBNER IS DOING WELL AND DID NOT HAVE ANY LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT!)

Catching Up with the Graduates…

With so many years of Delta Zeta at USF, the DZAA has hundreds of Alumni, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that with each passing year, we add more Brothers to our ranks as they graduate from USF and join the ranks of the Delta Zeta Alumni Association.

grad1Brother Kyle Schlenker is one of those recent graduates, having finished up at USF back in May 2014. He recently made a switch from a vet tech to an advisor for financial aid, working alongside his friend and fellow Chi Phi, Brent Ellingwood. “It’s a great paying job,” Brother Schlenker admits, “but it’s simply a resume builder for me at this moment. Right now, I’m just working, saving money to experience the most I can. This year, I have a bachelor’s party in Key West and a wedding in Massachusetts for Brent and Madison to look forward to. Also, I’ll be attending Bonnaroo in June and plan on traveling as much as I can!”

Brother Mike Rizer is an even more recent graduate, having graduated in August. He recently started the academy for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and while he admittedly doesn’t see to many of his Brothers, he states, “I see Brent Ellingwood, Kyle Schlenker, Ryan Kirchoffer, and Matthew Whitney fairly frequently. Usually see Josh Cleveland whenever he’s in town as well.”

Brothers Schlenker and Rizer are just two of the recent Delta Zeta graduates to begin the next chapter of their lives, and it’s our hope that the DZAA can be a part of it!
