Chapter News – Keeping Up with the Actives

The Delta Zeta Chapter at USF has been very busy since the beginning of the school year.   Not only did they induct 8 new members into the Chapter during Rush Week, but they have since added a 9th new inductee into the Fraternity!

On September 23rd, Jose Suarez (the current Alpha) and seven others went out of their way to support the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by going to Chili’s Donate Profits Day.  This was the 10th year that Chili’s has sponsored this event, donating 100% of their net profits on this one day to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  St. Jude leads the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.  It’s great to see the Active Brothers participate in such a worthwhile cause, just another way that Delta Zeta gives back to the community!

The Brothers are also working diligently to prepare for their 3rd Annual Spelling Bee philanthropy, set to take place on the USF campus on October 29th.  With two successful years under their belt, the Chapter is sure to raise even more funds this year for the Boys and Girls Club of America!

Finally, this past Saturday, each of the new members received their Big Brothers.  After an activity-filled evening of string theory and yogurt eating contest, each new member was given a candle and walked around a circle of Brothers.  The Brother who extinguished the candle was their Big, and it was an amazing evening!  The new members were ecstatic, to say the least, that they now had their Big Brothers to guide them on their way!

Fellow alumnus, Brother David Ebner, went to the Chapter’s meeting recently, where he spoke about the upcoming Golf outing.  He reported that things seem to be going very well with the Chapter, and the current Alpha and Beta are keeping the Chapter focused, holding the Brothers accountable and reminding everyone what it is to be a Chi Phi!

Where Are They Now?

For some of us, it has only been a few years since graduation, and we remain in relatively constant communication with our fellow Chi Phi Brothers.  For others, though, it has been more than five…ten…fifteen…twenty or more years since graduation!  Do you ever wonder whatever happened to this Brother or that Brother?

Do you wonder where Adam Feinberg is?  What about Jeff D’Urso and Jeff West?  And just what are Tim White and Gus Suarez up to these days?  Is anyone still in contact with George King or Rich Wightman?  And let’s not forget Scott Walker and Gary Chaiken… And what about YOU?

The DZAA is a great place to re-connect with some of your Brothers and catch up with friends from the past!  “Where Are They Now?” is a regular feature in the DZAA Newsletter, THE WINE PRESS, and starting next month, it will also become a regular feature in our newsfeed here on the website.  We will be reaching out to the alumni to ask you that very question! If you want your Brothers to know where you are and what’s going on in your life, and you haven’t yet heard from us, then contact us and let us know – then no one will be left to wonder, where are they now?

The Delta Zeta Chapter Grows!

Chaise Ballotti, Michael Blanco, Nathan Drass, Jake Heintz, Nick Julian, Ben Katz, Blaise Levai, and Raymond Vedros – what does these eight young men have in common?  They are the newest members to be inducted into the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity!

New Brothers

It all happened on Wednesday evening, September 11, 2013.  Delta Zeta gathered with the other Fraternities in the amphitheater right outside of the Marshall Student Center on the USF campus, and each individual new member was called one at a time.  At the end of the event, each Fraternity did their chants, and Delta Zeta took their new members to Applebee’s to celebrate.

After a short celebration, the Brothers chose to perform the induction ceremony with the new gentlemen just two hours after the bid rally, right in the Marshall Student Center ballroom.  As it is an open ritual event, the DZ Brothers had the luxury of having ladies from Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, and Sigma Delta Tau sororities join them for the ceremony.

Induction

Overall, the bid rally, celebration, and induction ceremony were extremely successful as Delta Zeta welcomed eight new members into the Fraternity.  All eight young men are very excited to be a part of our amazing organization, and they are preparing themselves for what lies ahead!
