Chapter News Extra! Homecoming Extravaganza

Homecoming Week wasn’t just a big event for the Alumni Association, what with the Fall Meeting, Tailgating, and Golf Tournament – it was also a winning week for the Chapter as well.  And win they did!  The Delta Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity teamed up with the ladies of Chi Omega and the gentlemen of Delta Chi to compete in the numerous Homecoming events.  Not only did they take 6 of the 8 First Place sashes (CharitaBull, Blood Drive, Shriner’s Tabs, Green and Gold Rush, Color the Campus, and Overall), but the Chapter also took home the First Place Trophy for Homecoming 2013!

In addition to these great successes, the Chapter’s current Alpha, Jose Suarez, made it to the final round of the RedBull Play & Destroy competition, where students went head to head in an iPod battle.  The student DJs were given a category and had to play the beset 30 seconds of a song to win the crowd over.  Brother Suarez went up against a member of Sigma Chi, turning the tournament into a battle between fraternities.  At the end of the night, Chi Phi’s very own was declared to be the winner and named the top RedBull DJ of Tampa Bay!

Turns out that both the Alumni and the Actives had a successful Homecoming Week – so snaps to all of the Delta Zeta Brothers!

In the News – Chip Woodard and More!

One unchanging fact in this life is that no matter how hard we try, we all get 1395162_10151749320951848_1599654904_nolder.  Even those of us in the Chi Phi Fraternity.  But getting older doesn’t mean we don’t celebrate, and celebrate the DZAA did on Saturday, October 12, 2013 in honor of Brother Chip Woodard’s 45th birthday!  Some of the gang, including Brian Harff and Jeff West, got together at Duke’s Retired Surfer’s Island Bar (which was NOT a reflection of the age thing, by the way!) in Tampa to wish Brother Woodard well, share a few drinks, and swap a few stories.

1383315_10102186231216961_865510216_nMeanwhile, last week on October 8th, Matthew Whitney, Kyle Schlenker, Luke Allen, and Chris Hopkins got together (along with Matt’s and Luke’s spouses) to watch the Rays go up against the Boston Red Sox at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.  While the Rays may have lost against the Red Sox, 1 to 3, the DZ alumni still managed to have a good time.

If you’ve got news or an announcement, please let us know so that we can post it here and all of your Brothers can share in it!

Football season is upon us, my fellow Alumni, and what better way to enjoy it than to share some games with your Brothers!  Two games have already come and gone – but don’t despair!  You haven’t missed your chance, as there are a number of games still to come!

September 28, 2013 – USF vs. Miami at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
Come out and join the Alumni in Lot 7 – just look for the Chi Phi flag!
We will have Giant Jenga and Cornhole to play, and there will be a limited amount of food available

October 5, 2013 – USF vs. Cincinnati at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
Once again, the Alumni will be meeting in Lot 7 – just look for the Chi Phi flag!
Giant Jenga and Cornhole will be there again, along with a limited amount of food

And there are still more games after that, with November 16th and November 23rd at Raymond James Stadium.  More details about the tailgating events can be found under “EVENTS” to the right of the newsfeed.

Come out and support your favorite team – or just come out and hang with your Brothers – either way, it will be a great way to spend the day and a great opportunity to make some new memories with some old friends!
