The First Annual USF Chi Phi Scholarship Scramble is over – and the Old Guys won!  With ten teams and lots of volunteers and supporters, the first ever DZAA golf tournament was a fantastic success.  Alumni, Actives, and their family and friends showed off their golfing skills, but when it came down to the wire, it was the “Old Guys” who walked away the winner – the “Old Guys” being Brian Harff, Steve Shelton, Ken Bjelke, and Mike Bergland.  Congratulations, gentlemen, on a game well played!

And for those that weren’t there, you missed out on the hole challenges, such as the Cornhole Challenge and the Tutu Challenge (c’mon – how many of you regret, now, missing out on seeing Alumni such as David Ebner, Ryan Suarez, and Patrick Vega, along with our Active Brother, Kyle Schlenker, wearing tutus?!).  Plus, tickets upon tickets upon tickets were sold for the raffle as attendees placed their hopes on winning prizes such as a foursome at Westchase Golf Club, a PowerBilt Putter, 2 tickets for MOSI and 2 tickets for the Aquarium, and the ever-popular 4 USF Tumblers!

After all expenses were paid, the First Annual USF Chi Phi Scholarship Scramble raised a little over $1,500 for the Chi Phi Educational Trust, which provides scholarships to the young men of Chi Phi to help pay for their education.  A big THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers who gave so much of their time to help make the event a success – without each and every one of you, we couldn’t have done it.  And an even bigger THANKS goes out to Board members, Brothers Kyllan Purdon and David Ebner, for the many hours that were spent over the last several months putting this event together, getting a host course, organizing the sponsors, volunteers, and challenges, and making it a great opportunity for Brothers, both old and new, to get together for a great cause.

Now the planning begins for the Second Annual USF Chi Phi Scholarship Scramble for Fall 2014…

Social News – Homecoming is Almost Here!

Homecoming weekend is upon us, and although we face probable defeat on the football field, the DZAA looks forward to a successful Alumni Weekend. We have planned a weekend full of fun and camaraderie for Delta Zetas young and old.

The weekend will kick-off with the bi-annual general meeting of the DZAA at the Marshal Center at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 25th. The meeting will include reports from various DZAA Officers, a vote on the 2014 Budget and By-Laws Updates and the Alumni Instillation Ceremony to be performed for recent graduates.

At 8:00 PM (or when the meeting closes) we will head over to Mr. Dunderbak’s for an Alumni Happy Hour!

The following day, Saturday, October 26th, we will be holding a Tailgate at Raymond James Stadium in preparation for the game against the 8th ranked Louisville Cardinals. The time for the game and the tailgate is TBD. We will update you when more information is available.

The finale for the weekend will be the first ever USF Chi Phi Scholarship Scramble on Sunday, October 27th at 8:00 AM. All proceeds for this event will be deposited into the Delta Zeta Scholarship Fund which is used to award scholarships annually to the undergraduate members of the Delta Zeta Chapter. To register for the golf outing, you can follow this link. The cost is $280 for a foursome or $75 for an individual registrant.

We hope you will consider joining us for the weekend! You can learn more about all of these events here on the website, as well as on our facebook group.

The donations continue to come in – both in the form of money (Icardi & Icardi, P.A. – Publix – Clinton Milsap – Bryan Calloway – Todd Latoski) and in the form of gifts (Greek Unique – Florida Aquarium – Dixon Golf – Rosedale Country Club).  In addition to the golf tournament, there will be a raffle, in which participants will have the opportunity to win a number of great prizes (from rounds of golf, to aquarium tickets, and more!).

We’ve also had more people signing up to play, so don’t delay!  Time is running out!  If you don’t have a foursome, don’t worry – we have other “free agents” with whom we can put you!  The Golf Scramble will take place on Sunday, October 27th at 8:00 a.m. at the Claw at USF, located at 13801 North 46th Street in Tampa.
