President’s Message – Good Things are Afoot!

Brothers,

Another month has come and gone, and we as an Association continue to move forward. We are looking forward to the Founders’ Weekend this Spring. If you’re considering coming into town, please do! Bring the family along with you. We will be holding a happy hour on the evening of Friday, April 11th, a banquet to celebrate 30 years of Delta Zeta on Saturday the 12th, and we will cap off the weekend with the annual Scarlet and Blue Classic Softball Game on Sunday the 13th.

This June will be a very important time for the Fraternity as we will elect a new Grand Alpha at Congress in Ron FrankAustin, Texas. We are very happy and proud that Brother Ron Frank will be running for the position and support him fully in his endeavor. Chi Phi has come a very long way in the past 5 years under the leadership of Grand Alpha Jim Soderquist. Our Chapters have never been healthier, larger or as plentiful, and this can be attributed to the vision of Brother Soderquits and the rest of his Grand Council. I see this vision being carried forward and expanded where need be by a Grand Council under Brother Frank.

Good things are afoot all around us, and it is our Alumni Association Board’s mission to take advantage of all the opportunities present. We look forward to seeing you at the Founders Weekend as well as the many social events from now until then.

Fraternally,
Brother David Ebner
DZAA-President

Alumni News – Where Were You on SuperBowl Sunday?

Sunday, February 2nd was a day of annual tradition for many football fans – SuperBowl Sunday!  While some watched with family, others watched with friends, and some just said “Who gives a *#&!” and went out and had some fun!

Like Brothers Aaron Poidevin, Quincy Banis, and Sameep Shah who donned their hats and sunglasses for some “everglades adventures”

 Aaron Quincy and Sam

Or like Brother Shaun Gorden, who found the game to be “kinda lame,” but did get some enjoyment out of the commercials (for which the SuperBowl has become quite famous for!)

Then again, maybe like Brother John Baker, who believed Pepsi spent more on the half-time fireworks display than they did on the actual half-time entertainment (I mean, really – has anything ever topped Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction?)

On the other hand, maybe like Brother Michael Vickers, who found the half-time show (with Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers) to be the “best halftime show I’ve seen in years”

Of course, there’s always Brother Bill Bartlett, who watched the event with pizza and wings

Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter how you spent the day – because no matter what you did, or where you did it, you were experiencing the day right along-side all of your Brothers in the Delta Zeta Alumni Association!  Snaps!!

Social News – 30th Anniversary Celebration

The Delta Zeta Alumni Association will be celebrating our 30th anniversary during Founders’ Weekend, April 11-13, 2014. Yes, it’s technically our 31st anniversary, but there’s no set rule saying we can’t celebrate 30 years in our 31st year!   This is definitely a landmark for the Fraternity, knowing that through all the ups and downs, the good times and the bad, we, as Brothers, have weathered every storm to persevere and keep Chi Phi alive at USF for 30 years and counting.  A full weekend of events are being planned:

Friday, April 11th – Evening Happy Hour

Saturday, April 12th – Founders’ Banquet Celebrating 30+ Years of Chi Phi at USF

Sunday, April 13th – Classic Scarlet v. Blue Softball Game at Riverfront Park

All Alumni are encouraged to attend the weekend’s events, and everyone is encouraged to bring their spouses, partners, and significant others to help celebrate this tremendous weekend.  Come to Tampa for the weekend and bring the whole family!
